Update: Congrats to JanD, who was randomly selected to win a $5 Amazon Gift Card from me!
I have a confession to make: you know those painful scenes in a novel, where one of the characters inadvertently (or even on purpose) breaks the other’s heart? I love writing those. I know, I know, it’s awful of me, but I enjoy the drama, the tension, the angst. At least on the page.
In real life, it’s not half so much fun. We all remember the first time we got our heart broken. For me, it was in sixth grade. I was completely in love with the cute, slightly stocky boy with the dark hair and eyes. He was so sweet and easy to talk to, and we loved hanging out on the playground. Clearly, we were meant to be together!
Then came the day. The day he asked a girl to “go with him” (which when you’re eleven basically means sitting together at lunch, but whatever)…and she wasn’t me.
Oh the drama! The angst! I was crushed–we were supposed to have a love for the ages, darn it, and instead he chose some other girl?! I went home and drew pictures of broken hearts all over my notebook, because clearly such deep despair could only be expressed through art. I might have written an emo poem while I was at it. Then I made the mistake of telling my mother, who rolled her eyes and told me I’d get over it. Thanks for the support, mom.

Sixth grade seems to be the time for first heartbreak! I was a sucker for a pretty face, and longed for a boy who had the longest eyelashes ever! Being an über geek, I never actually spoke to him, just stared. I was crushed when he couldn’t intuit my love for him…

My first real heartbreak was in college. I was absolutely obsessed with this guy. He was a bad boy and I was so into him. He broke my heart. Luckily my best friend at the time was there to pick up the pieces. We’ve been together for over 20 years now.
My first heartbreak was in middle school.
Thanks for the chance!

I don’t remember ever having a broken heart. Maybe I was just lucky because I know it would be devastating if something were to happen with my husband!

I am a very dedicated person when it comes to my crushes. My first significant crush started when I was in preschool. (Yes, I was an early bloomer.) I was madly in crushed with him for nine years. I still frequently dream about him probably because so much of my adolescent life was made up of daydreaming about him.
We never did get together but I think that if we met today, we would get together pretty quickly. While many of the girls from my high school got grosser as they grew older (smoking and alcoholism can do that to a girl), I’ve gotten hotter. Not trying to be cocky, but compared to my high school/ middle school years, I am WAY more attractive.

My first heartbreak was a bad one. I made the mistake of falling for a “bad boy”. He was hot, confident, and knew it. At 17 I was unprepared for the game. We were together for quite sometime and he repeatedly broke my heart. When I finally wised up and left I met the proverbial “nice guy”. I tortured this poor guy and gave him all of the hurt that had been in my heart. I was lucky though, later in life when the evil had left my heart and attitude we met up again and I got to marry that nice guy, only to find out he was not so nice, but in all the right way. I married the heart throb, my hero, and have been enjoying the benefits ever since.

My little heart was heartbroken
I did have my heart broken once, but it was short term because I realized that it was a good thing in the long run. After 7 years together it still hurt though!

I may not have much experience in the whole love department, but I have had my heart broken. Being considered a Heartbreaker can come from various actions that you do. I am a newbie when it comes to reading romance books but what I have learned is that it is not bad to have a chiseled body or an amazing personality. If you look at it over all, if you never put your heart out there, you may never have a chance at true love and happiness. I may get broken once in a while but only you are strong enough to pick yourself up and try all over again. One of my favorite Heartbreakers is Taylor Qualls the Earl of Sandlin from the book His Impetuous Debutante. Lady Phoebe kinda reminds me of myself, accident prone and finding trouble in every corner. Taylor doesn’t think he is good enough for Phoebe, so he’s a heartbreaker and doesn’t know it.

My broken heart happened in college(late bloomer). I really did not know how to handle a relationship like that and received a broken heart because of that. Now that I am way older I know how to hold on to the man I love who really loves me back.

My first heartbreak was in 6th grade when my best friend (and class heartthrob) asked my best girl friend to the dance instead of me. Looking back I can laugh a bit, but at the time I thought it was the end of the world.

I think it’s awful when you misread signs. You think they like you and they kind of act the same to all girls (you find out later).
